Swank encourages employees to give back to their favorite local charities throughout the year as part of the "Swank Gives Back" program. Originating in 2012 as a celebration of our 75th anniversary, this program enables our company to assist local charitable organizations that are close to our hearts through company-sponsored volunteer days and fundraising.

Each year, the organizations we serve are nominated by our employees to aid in our mission of helping our neighbors in need.

On behalf of Dirks Fund Golden Retriever Rescue and Bob Tillay, I want to thank you and your group for spending the morning at our shelter last Thursday... You accomplished so much, and everything you did was appreciated. Spreading a truckload of wood chips was no easy task, but you all pitched in and it was done in no time at all.Everything smelled so fresh and clean after the crates had all been cleaned and disinfected and the floors vacuumed. The outside run area looked great after the hair, dirt and wood chips had been swept up.

Of course, our dogs loved their time with all of you. It looks like a few of the ones you met will soon be going to their new forever homes, and new ones are coming in to take their spaces.

I enjoyed meeting and visiting with all of you and hope that I see you all again as Dirks' volunteers or maybe coming to our shelter to adopt one of our dogs. Be sure to check our FaceBook page to see the pictures I posted of your group and keep track of some of your favorite dogs.

I participated in Swank Gives Back event at the Women's Safe House.

Our project was to paint stairway railings, the walls of 2 hallways, & paint and rearrange the furniture in the office of a new employee.

It was an awesome experience, both the work with my great Swank Teammates & seeing the faces of the children in the childcare center. They were so excited to have people there working to make the place brighter.

The work that this organization does for women & children in our community encourages me to give of myself to help someone else. It also reminds me of how blessed I am.

I love that we were allowed to volunteer again this year, and I hope this initiative continues for years to come.

My volunteer day was spent at Edgewood Children's Center.

It was educational for me because I never had personal experience with autistic children, emotionally disturbed children, or children from abusive homes with learned extreme behaviors they have to overcome. The staff explained how they treat the children with respect and love, and provide them with a homelike atmosphere to live. They also explained how they help the children learn alternative ways to express anger and/or disappointment, instead of using destructive or hurtful methods.

The staff took us on a tour of the facility, where we saw different types of housing, depending on the needs and ages of the children, and school rooms. This included a classroom where the children were going to learn to make ice cream, which helps them with reading and math skills, and in the end, they get to eat their homework!

The staff showed extreme pride and enthusiasm for the work they do. They expressed an overwhelming appreciation for the Swank volunteers. They made good use of us, we were divided in groups to work different projects, some did landscaping, watering, and others (including myself) worked on tools to help the autistic children know what their daily routine will be for the day, which helps them feel more secure and be more productive.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time there, I felt the staff really appreciated that we were there, and they gave us meaningful work to do.

Thanks!
Sandy T.
