“An annual event for us is the RHA ‘Movie in the Quad.’ Each year on the Friday evening students move in to campus, we rent a huge outdoor screen and show a Swank movie on it for our students.  We usually get around 500 students to sit outside and enjoy!  Dining Services provides popcorn.  It's a great opportunity to promote RHA early on.”

“We hosted a movie night in the second week of classes in the evening that encouraged students to relax during the week and build a community with one another. We achieved these goals by hosting the movie night outside in our residential area which brought students out of their rooms. Once at the event students got a free blanket to share with their friends to sit on the grass and make connections with one another during the movie.”

“We annually show a movie on the football field at the end of Welcome Week.  All students are welcome to attend and really enjoy watching the movie outside in a place they wouldn't normally go.  We definitely encourage Freshmen to attend and to come with people from their residence hall so they can make friends. We promote the event through the First Year Experience team throughout Welcome Week, as well as listing it in the Welcome Week brochure, hanging flyers and posters, and making sure to talk about it at other events we sponsored during the week.”

Student Hosted Movie Night

"We do a 'Screen on the Green' the night the halls open. This was a good event that students were able to gather for and enjoy the newest ‘Fast/Furious’ movie."

– Mississippi University for Women

“As a military school, with a mix of Corps students and civilian students, we are always trying to bridge the gap. ‘Top Gun’ was a great movie for bridging the two groups together because it can be enjoyed by all. We advertise the movie through posters, TV announcements, and hung planes all around campus. We also offered a raffle prize for one lucky individual, snacks that were provided by the Chinese Club in the theme of red, white, and blue, and takeaway planes for everyone.”
