Hamlet

(1948)

Synopsis

This re-imagining of Shakespeare's classic tragedy about the irresolute Prince of Denmark included transposing entire scenes, eliminating a number of characters (including Rosencrantz and Guildenstern) and trimming the play's running time by almost half. The Best Picture winner stars Laurence Olivier (who won a Best Actor Oscar) in the title role and he also serves as director, for which he was Oscar nominated.
