Synopsis

Frank Capra satire about a Thoreau-quoting, tuba-playing small-town poet who inherits $20 million and, disillusioned with wealth, decides to give it all away, prompting his lawyer to have him declared insane. Capra's direction won an Oscar for this Best Picture nominee, and nominations also went to titular star Gary Cooper and screenwriter Robert Riskin.
