Synopsis

Best Picture winner is a slice-of-life Bronx tale about a shy and lonely butcher who sees the potential for a possible romance with a not-too-glamorous and equally shy schoolteacher. Oscars went to director Delbert Mann and screenwriter Paddy Chayefsky, who, respectively, directed and wrote the original 1953 teleplay. Ernest Borgnine won Best Actor for the title role.
