Synopsis

"Ouch—that bear is stepping on the kangaroo’s pouch! And oh, the kangaroo is standing on the gnu’s toe. The gnu is—unk!—on that elephant’s trunk, and—eek!—the moose is leaning on the pelican’s beak. The animals at the zoo are smooshed on top of each other, and they’ve had about enough of it. So one day, after a seal flips his flippers and swallows several kippers, all the animals began to chant. “Let us out! Let us out! Let us out!” Will the animals get their wish? And what will happen if they do? Come along to the crowded zoo to see what’s new and—of course—watch out where you step with your shoes! Inspired by a time when zoo enclosures were transitioned from cramped cages to more open, habitat-appropriate spaces, What's New at the Zoo? is a silly rhymer about needing a little more elbow, hoof, snout, neck, tail, and leg room. Written by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, illustrated by Travis Foster, and published by Blue Apple Books."
