Synopsis

In Nauvoo, Illinois, in 1844, Joseph Smith, a prophet for the Church of the Latter-Day Saints, was violently killed by a mob. Church leaders then begin to worry that the Christian sect and its principles will perish alongside Smith's memory, and those opposed to the church proclaim that such is their goal. A young and idealistic Brigham Young then shoulders the task of leading his people out of chaos and back into peace.
