Spread the Word About Your Campus Streaming Platform
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has partnered with Swank Residence Life Cinema to provide residents with a dedicated channel of top movies and TV shows for 20 years. So, when they launched their new streaming service, they could have easily posted announcements in a few places and moved on. Instead, they rolled out their new, branded resident amenity, mytv10, with great fanfare – using multiple, unique tactics to engage and reach students in different ways.
With the help of some free Swank resources and their Account Representatives, the launch team got to work. They started by placing a door hanger on every single door in each of the school’s 14 residence halls. Then, they spent three hours passing out stickered popcorn, candy, flyers and more in the student union highlighting the URL for their streaming site. By connecting with their student newspaper to write a short article, the Housing and Residence Life team was able to reach thousands of students with the announcement of mytv10. The school even branded phone cardholders and placed business cards inside with information on the featured content, which they handed out around campus. They were a huge hit.

But even after a successful launch day, their promotion efforts didn’t – and still haven’t – stopped. WTOP-TV, the school’s TV station that manages the platform, has a dedicated student social media manager who regularly posts on Instagram, including interactive elements like stories and polls. They also regularly create digital promotions for their website and social accounts, and have students write blog post content to engage students with the service, like “5 Best Movies to Watch on MyTV10 for Valentine’s Day!” “It’s really important to know what is attracting student attention because that informs your practice..." said Director of Housing, Residence Life Quincy Chapman. "It also helps us influence the times and the methods to sharing information.”
