“Ocean’s 8” Stole the #1 Spot

With a star-studded cast, including Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway, “Ocean’s 8” set an opening-weekend best for the “Ocean’s” franchise while earning a B+ CinemaScore. This glittering, female-led heist movie opened to $41.5 million at the box office.

Women and older moviegoers pushed the movie into this weekend’s top spot. Female ticket buyers and movie watchers over the age of 25 both made up more than 69 percent of all ticket sales according to statistics. Warner Bros. Distribution Chief Jeff Goldstein said some of the reasons for these specific audience stats are because, "No.1, it's fun. No. 2, it hits an underserved audience. Unfortunately, there's a lack of stories that are aimed right at women."

“You are not doing this for me. You are not doing this for you. Somewhere out there is an eight-year-old girl dreaming of becoming a criminal. Do this for her.” Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean in “Ocean’s 8”

More than a decade after Steven Soderbergh’s “Ocean’s” trilogy brought in over $1 billion at the box office, this spin-off spotlights a brand-new, all-woman crew of con artists. Danny Ocean (originally played by George Clooney) has a sister, Debbie Ocean, who’s also in the business of stealing from the very rich. She’s out of jail and ready to oversee her own con with the help of a talented group of women who are all ready to roll the dice to steal a $150 million Cartier necklace that’s being worn at the Met Gala.

Fun and full of fashion, this summer blockbuster features tons of cameos and a new twist on an already great franchise. See it in theaters now, then show it to your own audience starting this fall with licensing from Swank.
