RLC Welcomes New Partner Love Has No Labels
Residence Life Cinema has partnered with the award-winning public service campaign Love Has No Labels to promote diversity and acceptance through positive messages.
Swank Residence Life Cinema recently partnered with Love Has No Labels, an Emmy®-award winning public service campaign, so schools can add the impactful content to their streaming platforms. Launched in 2015, Love Has No Labels was created to flood culture with diverse images of love and acceptance in order to erode implicit bias and promote inclusion across race, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender and ability.
Its iconic “Skeletons” video launched in March 2015 – right before the Supreme Court ruled on same-sex marriage equality. Featuring a large x-ray installation in Santa Monica, the video displayed skeletons kissing, hugging and dancing as onlookers mentally filled in the blanks of what constituted friendship, romantic love and family. They were surprised, however, by the people who actually stepped out – demonstrating how implicit bias can impact our views.
At a time when the country feels divided, Love Has No Labels provides hopeful, uplifting and unifying messages of acceptance to help foster important conversations around bias, acceptance and inclusion. Jenn Walters, Campaign Director at Love Has No Labels’
The video quickly went viral. Generating more than 93 million total views in the first month alone, it became the second-most viewed community and activism campaign of all time after just three weeks and was the first PSA to ever win an Emmy®-award for outstanding commercial.
Following “Skeletons” success, Love Has No Labels partnered with WWE superstar John Cena during the 2016 election to break down the definition of patriotism and remind us that to love America means to love all Americans, with the launch of “We Are America.” And after the divisive presidential election, the campaign teamed up with the NFL to transform the traditional kiss cam at the 2017 Pro Bowl into an unbiased “Fans of Love” cam to feature all forms of love - friendships, families and romantic relationships.
The campaign’s latest video “Rising,” highlights how people tend to put aside their differences in the wake of disaster in order to encourage all of us to act inclusive every day. The original short film reminds us that love and compassion are inside us all the time and we shouldn’t wait for the worst in nature to bring out the best in humanity. Inspired by real people, the film was directed by David Nutter of “Game of Thrones” and written by “The Chi” creator Lena Waithe.
Love Has No Labels has helped increase the percentage of people who support acceptance around race, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender and ability by 10 percent – a percentage jump that represents millions of people.
In addition to impactful content, the campaign also supplies free resources to help audiences openly discuss diversity and inclusion in their everyday lives, whether at school, at work or within their local community. Resources include discussion guides, questions to self-reflect on your implicit bias and connect with people through conversation, customizable marketing resources and activities created with the help of issue experts. There’s even a campus guide to help faculty and students facilitate discussions around bias and inclusion.
You can add Love Has No Labels’ content to your RLC platform as pre-roll clips or stand-alone videos – great for hall programming or to include as part of your RA training. Just remember, this is just one of our amazing PSA partners. Click here to browse them all.
