‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ Is #1 at the Box Office

The Terminator is back for a sixth installment of the famed sci-fi franchise in “Terminator: Dark Fate.” Starring Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger, with James Cameron attached as co-writer and producer, this film is a worthy addition for both die-hard fans and newbies alike.

Once again, the Terminator made good on his promise. This time in “Terminator: Dark Fate,” the sixth installment of the longest-running sci-fi franchise in cinematic history. The film premiered in theaters over the weekend – earning the top spot nationwide.

This latest addition to the franchise sees Arnold Schwarzenegger reprise his role as the titular character, as well as Linda Hamilton’s return as Sarah Connor. The last time she was seen in the franchise was 1991’s “Judgement Day.” “Dark Fate” also marks the return of James Cameron, the franchise’s creator, as a co-writer and producer. It’s been three decades since his name was attached to a “Terminator” film.

Taking on the role of director this time around is “Deadpool’s” Tim Miller. Many have lauded the choice, including the Washington Post who wrote, “Director Tim Miller has hit a reset button, and he finds just the right mix of action, suspense and, when needed, old-school comic relief.”

The return of the original cast and creators paid off as well. Uproxx reported this was the “best ‘Terminator’ film since ‘T2,’” while Fandango called it “one of the year’s greatest action movies.” The film currently holds an 85 percent audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film takes place two decades after Sarah Connor saved the world in “Judgement Day.” This time around, however, it’s a young factory worker named Dani Ramos who needs saving when an indestructible newly modified liquid Terminator travels back in time to kill her. To survive, Dani relies on Grace, a hybrid cyborg human also sent back in time, seasoned pro Sarah Connor and, surprisingly, the T-800 Terminator.

Linda Hamilton received special praise for her reprised role. The Seattle Times shared, Hamilton steps back into the role of Sarah for the first time since ‘Judgment Day’ and instantly becomes the heart and soul of the movie.” The Rolling Stone’s echoed those claims writing, “It’s not a stretch to say that Linda Hamilton is the main reason you should rush out to see ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ posthaste.”

New supporting characters include Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes, Gabriel Luna and Diego Boneta.
