Films & Activities for Astronomy Day

Spring International Astronomy Day will be celebrated on May 7 this year. With the lack of light pollution making skyward objects brighter at sea, your ship is the perfect place for passengers to celebrate the constellations and more. Below, discover some of our favorite films – as well as activities – for creating engaging and exciting Astronomy Day programming onboard your ships this spring.

Kids & Families

Help the youngest passengers on board celebrate with some astronomical-themed activities. You could play space-themed tag -- designate Astronauts who can only move using slow leaping motions or Aliens who must crawl or waddle.  Or, teach kids about moon phases then see who can recreate them all the fastest by licking away the cream on Oreos. Plus, galaxy slime, filled with bright colors and sparkles, is always a hit.

Teens

Create a night just for the teens on board with a teen-only Starlight Movie Night! Have a space-themed photo op for selfies, and feature themed snack options – like astronaut food or Moon Pies.

Adults

Offer binoculars and star chart printouts to passengers so they can try out a DIY constellation tour on your ship’s upper decks, identify major constellations, gather their bearings from the stars, and much more. Pairing this programming with a romantic dinner under the stars for couples, as well as a space-themed film, makes for a night your passengers will never forget.
