Original Animated Film ‘The Bad Guys’ is Good for Families

The film tops the weekend’s box office by delivering positive messages and fun new characters.

The PG-rated comedy, based on a popular graphic novel series, was #1 at the domestic box office this weekend with $24 million in sales, in addition to the $63 million it has already grossed overseas.

The movie from DreamWorks Animation starts as career criminals are captured and then make an attempt to turn their lives around.  It follows a wolf (voiced by Sam Rockwell), tarantula (Awkwafina), shark (Craig Robinson), piranha (Anthony Ramos), and snake (Marc Maron) through an action-packed adventure. It subtly challenges stereotypes and the value of good deeds.

Audiences and critics alike appreciated the beautiful animation that brought these characters to life on screen, as well as the action scenes and soundtrack.

“By combining its traditional, kid-friendly elements with a plot that was clearly inspired by several much edgier heist films, The Bad Guys ends up being an unexpected combination of two opposing genres.” DigitalTrends.com

This was the first directorial debut for Pierre Perifel, and he received positive reviews for his efforts, including a 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The cast was also noted for its terrific vocal performances.

“The ensemble includes many well-known names, but unlike so many celebrities cast in animated films purely for their star value, they actually deliver vivid characterizations that go beyond being recognizable voices.” The Hollywood Reporter

“The Bad Guys” is playing in theaters now and will be available for licensing from Swank this spring.
