‘Don’t Worry Darling’ Earns #1 Weekend Release
Learn more about the heavily talked about thriller.
There was no need for Warner Bros. to worry about its latest release, “Don’t Worry Darling.” The psychological drama topped the North American box office over the weekend, earning an estimated $19.4 million domestically and $30 million globally.
The film is Olivia Wilde’s second stint in the director’s chair following her 2019 directorial debut with “Booksmart.” The film stars Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, Nik Kroll, Asif Ali, Sydney Chandler and Douglas Smith.
Touted as a feminist tale, the film spotlights how men manipulate women and carry out misogynistic oppression in the modern world. It does all this while delivering an intensely stylish and visually stunning film.
“One of the best films of the year.” Evening Standard
Pugh stars as Alice, a perfectly-coiffed 1950s housewife who lives with her husband in Victory, California. The dessert town was created for employees of the mysterious Victory Project, where all the men work. The couple is happy and all the town’s inhabitants are content until cracks in their idyllic life begin to form and Alice starts to question everything.
There’s a lot to praise for the R-rated film. The New Yorker shared, “Olivia Wilde’s film is deftly designed and performed – and delivers a stunning twist.” And Pugh received endless compliments for her starring role, with the Chicago Sun-Times claiming she’s “an absolute force onscreen.”
The film currently holds an 80 percent approval rating from moviegoers on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Don’t Worry Darling” is playing in theaters now and will be available for licensing from Swank soon.
