Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation have hit a home run with their latest release, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” The film became Sony's biggest animated opening of all time over the weekend, raking in an estimated $120.5 million domestically and $88.1 million internationally.
The first of a two-part conclusion to the multiverse story that began with “Into the Spider-Verse,” the film brings back Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy alongside a new team of Spider-People as they face off against a formidable villain who poses a threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered. Directed by the talented trio Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K Thompson, the film is a testament to their creative vision. The screenplay, written by Dave Callahan, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller, weaves a captivating tale. The film is produced by Lord and Miller, along with Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, and Christina Steinberg.
The movie's performance at the box office is truly remarkable. It secured the third-best opening for a "Spider-Man" film and claimed the title of the second-biggest opening of 2023. Critics and audiences alike have fallen in love with the sequel. It currently has a 96 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and a Certified Fresh score of 95 percent from critics.
