‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Scores Monstrous Opening

In a thrilling twist, the much-anticipated video game adaptation, "Five Nights at Freddy's," made its debut at the top of the box office charts over the Halloween weekend. Released by Universal and Blumhouse, this horror-mystery film has quickly become a blockbuster sensation, with an $80 million domestic debut and a worldwide gross of $132 million.
The movie, a live-action adaptation of the popular video game, revolves around a nighttime security guard who takes a job at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, a family entertainment center. However, he quickly learns the kiddie play place is home to murderous animatronic mascots.
The timing of the film's release couldn't have been more perfect. Premiering over Halloween weekend, "Five Nights at Freddy's" leveraged the spooky holiday spirit to draw in crowds of thrill-seekers looking for a good scare. In fact, the film delivered Blumhouse's best opening ever. It also marked the third-best opening for a horror film, following in the terrifying footsteps of "It" and "It: Chapter Two."

Not stopping at just horror, "Five Nights at Freddy's" also claimed the title of the second-biggest weekend ever for a video game adaptation. It stands just behind Universal and Nintendo's "The Super Mario Bros. Movie."
Audiences have embraced the film with an A- Cinemascore and an impressive 88 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, showcasing its appeal to horror enthusiasts. And with a PG-13 rating, "Five Nights at Freddy's" is accessible to a wider demographic of audiences.
The movie boasts a talented ensemble cast, including Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Kat Conner Sterling, Mary Stuart Masterson and Matthew Lillard.
