‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ Earns Franchise’s Biggest Debut

Learn all about the celebrated prequel below.

A summer of hit films continued this past weekend with the release of “A Quiet Place: Day One,” the prequel to Paramount’s beloved horror franchise. Earning $53 million during its first weekend, “A Quiet Place: Day One” has already surpassed box office projections. Fans flocked to theaters to see a new cast and a new director’s take on this origin story, making the film the best theatrical release of the entire series.

Set during the first few days of the acute-hearing monsters’ invasion, the prequel follows Sam (Lupita Nyong’o), a hospice patient journeying through the apocalyptic and newly silent streets of New York City to indulge in a slice of pizza from her favorite childhood spot. What seems like a simple quest turns into a complicated escapade as Sam, joined by her cat and panicky law student Eric (Joseph Quinn), must be silent to avoid the horrific attacks and stay alive.

“This is the best movie in the series.” SlashFilm

Dijmon Hounsou, returning from the second film, and Alex Wolff both appear alongside Nyong’o and Quinn in director Michael Sarnoski’s thrilling take. Critics and fans laud the movie’s balance of fear and friendship, with Entertainment Weekly remarking, “This movie ends up being quite touching in between scenes when it’s making you jump.” With little dialogue in the movie, critics were astounded by the cast’s abilities to convey the emotional story through their expressions, garnering the film an 85 percent Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score and a B+ from CinemaScore. In a world where everything is quiet, “A Quiet Place: Day One” is making thunderous sounds of success.

“A Quiet Place: Day One” is playing in theaters now and will be available for licensing from Swank soon.
