‘Despicable Me 4’ Is a Mega Hit
The loveable Minions are back and sillier than ever in this latest installment.
Family-friendly movies are boosting box office numbers this summer, and “Despicable Me 4” was no exception. Its holiday-weekend release sparked sales, with the movie earning $75 million over the weekend and a grand total of $122.6 million since its Wednesday opening.
Moviegoers were thrilled to see Gru (Steve Carell) and the Minions (Pierre Coffin) back in action, this time facing a new villain in former classmate Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell). When Gru and his family go into hiding to avoid the threats of Maxime, their cover is compromised by the schemes of Poppy Prescott (Joey King), their new teenage neighbor. Gru, with the help of the powerfully evolved Mega Minions, must fight to save his family and prevail against Maxime.

Hollywood favorites Kristen Wiig, Sofia Vergara, Chloe Fineman, Stephen Colbert, Miranda Cosgrove and more added their voices to characters old and new. Audiences have loved coming back to theaters to see more Minion mayhem, earning the movie a 90 percent Audience Score and an A from CinemaScore. Critics also praised the movie for its hysterics, hailing the “laugh-out-loud moments and impressively detailed animation” (The Hollywood Reporter). Even 14 years after the original film, the “Despicable Me” franchise is still proving itself to be a fan-favorite.
