Helping Educators Turn Film into Meaningful SEL Experiences
Social-emotional learning (SEL) is more than a program — it’s a foundation for helping students thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. Movies and storytelling make these lessons real, giving students the chance to see, feel, and practice empathy, resilience, and emotional literacy.
At Swank Educational Streaming, we make it simple for schools and districts to integrate film into SEL initiatives, classroom lessons, and enrichment programs. With thousands of licensed titles, curated collections, and built-in classroom tools, we’re helping educators support whole-student development in ways that are both engaging and practical.

Swank Educational Streaming brings it to life in schools.
Hi, everyone. I’m Mark Brackett, founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. I’m also the author of the new book, Dealing with Feelings, and the co creator of RULER, which is an evidence based approach to social emotional learning that’s now in over five thousand schools. Here, I’m talking about the work I’ve done with Swank Motion Pictures on these SEO guides. And what we’ve done is taken all of our science and the work we’ve done in schools and applied it to these guides to help teachers better understand how to support students in developing skills through film. What I love about it is that we’re using the films that kids love to watch, but also diving deeply into the social and emotional development of the characters and how that relates to the kids’ own development, ultimately with the goal of helping students live healthier, happier, and more productive lives.
Social-Emotional Movie Lesson Guides by Marc Brackett
Marc Brackett’s lesson guides support SEL by using film scenes as a ready-made structure for grade-level discussion and reflection that helps students name emotions, understand their purpose, and practice regulation and empathy. The “emotion scientist” prompts and facilitation tips make it easy for educators to build stronger classroom culture, relationships, and decision-making routines.
